P.E. Uniform
Students may wear their P.E. clothes to school on their P.E. day(s), and remain in them all day. Please see descriptions below for uniform expectations, following the O.L.V. handbook:
All students (except pre-school and kindergarten) are required to wear school approved shirts and shorts from the spirit shop as a gym uniform. Kindergarteners must wear gym shoes and socks, shorts without buttons and any color t-shirt. Pre-K and K: Please consider your child will be running, jumping, sweating in the clothes and shoes you pick out on P.E. mornings. Gym shoes are important for safety. All other grades must wear school spirit wear.
In the Spirit shop, school approved uniforms are marked. Fan gear, sold through Athletics, or t-shirts that have an OLV sport on them, are not considered "school uniform" or "school approved". 175th anniversary t-shirts are not PE uniform nor is anything that says "Vipers" or has a number or name on it. PBIS shirts are not PE shirts; they are a special shirt for Fridays only. OLV PTO Walk t-shirts are acceptable.
Students are to wear socks and athletic shoes made for running, jumping, changing directions. Boots, backless shoes, sandals, sparkly strappy shoes, and skateboard shoes may not be worn. Shoes must be either tied tight enough to be safe, with the knot exposed, or be fastened with velcro. Shoes made for exercising will give the student a better base, be more stable, and help prevent injury. With this in mind, please wear exercise type shoes rather than flat, non-supportive type shoes meant for fashion.
Sweatshirts and sweatpants may be worn when the weather gets cold. Keeping with the school policy of sweatshirts, only an OLV school approved sweatshirt or fleece may be worn. It is helpful if students' names or initials are written inside. Sweatpants may be blue or gray, solid color (no stripes or logos). School approved pants are also available in the spirit shop. Even though the school rule is that shorts may not be worn as of October 15, this does not apply to P.E. uniform. In colder weather when leggings are worn, they are to be school approved colors and shorts must still be worn on top of them.
Refer to page 19 in the OLV Handbook if necessary. You can always call or e-mail Mrs. Herrmann ahead of time if you are not sure.
